维生素B12是自然界中天然合成的最复杂的小分子化合物之一，也是高等动植物生理活动必需的化合物。它以辅酶形式，在DNA合成、甲基化和线粒体代谢中发挥重要作用。目前，维生素B12的工业生产主要依赖微生物发酵来实现。然而，以微生物为底盘合成维生素B12的方法，存在菌种改造困难、发酵周期长、合成途径的瓶颈难以发掘、产物生产和菌株生长难以实现平衡等问题。
